Update Ledger Doctor
There are two kinds of updates. New and improved checks arrive on their own. New versions of Ledger Doctor itself download on their own, and a Ledger Doctor admin installs them with one click, or lets them install automatically.
New checks: nothing to do
Once a day, Ledger Doctor asks our server for a newer check library. If there is one, it checks our signature and applies it. The health dashboard shows which check library you have, under the headline. The checks in each library are listed in Every check Ledger Doctor runs.
A new version: the notice
When a new version is out, everyone sees a notice at the top of each page: Ledger Doctor version is available, with a See what's new link to the release notes.
- Copy a message to send copies a short message for whoever looks after the server, saying what's new and how to install it.
- Remind me in a week hides the notice in your browser for a week. Updates marked important can't be hidden.
Meanwhile, Ledger Doctor downloads the new version to its own server and checks it: that it's signed by us, and that the file is exactly the one we signed. Nothing is installed yet.
Install it with one click
- As a Ledger Doctor admin, choose Install update now in the notice.
- Read the confirmation and choose Install version now, or Cancel.
- The notice changes to Installing the update. Ledger Doctor stops for a few minutes, installs the new version, upgrades its database and starts again. The page reloads by itself when it's back.
Your settings, history, marks, reconciliations and close checklists are kept. Afterward the dashboard says Update installed., and the result is in the job log on the Settings page.
If the new version doesn't start properly, the version you had is put back and the notice says The update didn't install. with the reason.
The install is done by the "Ledger Doctor update" scheduled task that setup creates. It runs as the server's system account, checks the signature again just before installing, and does nothing unless an approver asked. If it can't be started right away, it picks the request up within 10 minutes.
Install new versions automatically
You don't have to click. In the Updates section of the Settings page, a Ledger Doctor admin can choose:
- Install new versions automatically: each new version installs by itself in a window you choose, overnight by default (01:00-05:00, this server's time). It's the same install as Install update now.
- Let my partner install updates: your implementation partner can tell this server to check for a new version and install it right away, with Update their Ledger Doctor in their partner application. They're told when it's finished, or why it failed.
Either way it's only our signed version, checked on your server, and each install is in the job log and the security log. Choose Save after changing them.
Change settings with setup
To add GP companies, or to change the port, approvers or email settings, run setup again on the server that runs Ledger Doctor: double-click LedgerDoctor.Service.exe in its install folder and choose Update or change settings. It keeps everything.
Check for updates now
Approvers can choose Check for updates under Background jobs on the Settings page instead of waiting for the daily check.
