Install Ledger Doctor
Setup takes about 10 minutes. You run it once on a Windows server that can reach the SQL Server holding your GP databases. Nothing is installed on GP workstations, and GP itself isn't changed. The install guide has every step with screenshots and a video.
Before you start
- A Windows server on your network that can reach the GP SQL Server. The SQL Server machine itself is fine.
- Local admin on that server, and a SQL Server sysadmin sign-in: your Windows account or a SQL login such as sa. Setup uses it only while it runs and doesn't save it.
- A license key (from your welcome page, or from a free trial), and the zip from the download page, which needs no key.
- The server needs to reach
https://api.myledgerdoctor.comon port 443. Your GP data is never sent there.
Run setup
- Unzip the download, open the
Ledger Doctorfolder and double-clickLedgerDoctor.Service.exe. Choose Yes when Windows asks to allow changes. Setup opens in your browser; keep the small setup window open. If Windows says "unknown publisher", see this article. - License key: paste your key and choose Check and continue.
- Your GP SQL Server: type the server name (for a named instance,
SERVER\INSTANCE), sign in as a sysadmin and choose Connect. Setup finds the GP system database and lists every GP company. Uncheck any company you don't want monitored. - Who can approve fixes: list Windows users or groups, one per line, and choose Check names and continue. See who can do what.
- Options: pick the web address port (47474 unless you change it) and how to set up HTTPS: a certificate Ledger Doctor makes for the server, one from the server's certificate store, or not now. Leave Run the first scan when setup finishes checked. Share a daily health status with Ledger Doctor support is on by default; see what it sends. The daily email report is optional and can be added later.
- Ready to install: check the summary and choose Install. Each step is ticked off as it finishes. When it's done, open the address it shows and send it to your team.
Setup closes itself a few minutes after it finishes. You can also choose Close setup.
What setup does
- Creates the LedgerDoctor database on your GP SQL Server and loads the checks, or upgrades it if it's already there.
- Creates Ledger Doctor's own SQL login with a random password nobody needs to know. It gets read access to every GP company, plus delete permission on only the few tables the one-click fixes clean up.
- Copies Ledger Doctor to
C:\Program Files\Ledger Doctorand writes its settings file there, readable only by administrators and the service. - Installs and starts the "Ledger Doctor" Windows service and the "Ledger Doctor update" scheduled task, and opens the port in Windows Firewall: on the domain network, or on private networks too if the server isn't on a domain.
- Sets up HTTPS the way you chose. Its certificate and settings go in
C:\ProgramData\Ledger Doctor\Https, which only administrators, the system and the service can open. - Runs the first scan, unless you unchecked it.
Running setup again
Double-click LedgerDoctor.Service.exe again to get Update or change settings or Uninstall. Updating keeps your settings, history and close checklists. Uninstalling removes the service, its update task, its firewall rule and its folder; check the box to remove the LedgerDoctor database and its SQL login too. Neither changes GP data.
